Brewed in Cologne, Germany, "Kölsch" has a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) within the European Union. Its style characteristics were laid down in the "1986 Kölsch Konvention", where it is defined as a light coloured, highly fermented, hoppy, clear, top-fermented beer. Traditionally served in a 0.2-litre, cylindrical, thin-walled glass called the Stange, Kölsch Wies is unfiltered and Kölsch is filtered. The Geist Kölsch-Style Ale is pale golden in colour with a refreshingly light palate and a delicate mouthfeel. With faint fruity aromas and lager-like characteristics, this centrifuged beer is backed by a touch of maltiness and soft bitterness.
